Meeting between Foreign Minister IWAYA and Mr. Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, European Commission

On 17 September commencing at 3:30 p.m., for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with Mr. Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, European Commission, who is visiting Japan for the first time. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA welcomed Executive Vice-President Séjourné’s first visit to Japan and his visit to the EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan and expressed his intention to work together with the EU, a strategic partner. In response, Executive Vice-President Séjourné expressed his pleasure to be visiting Japan soon after the Japan-EU Summit in July and his willingness to further strengthen cooperation between Japan and the EU in a wide range of fields, looking ahead to the next Japan-EU High-Level Economic Dialogue.
  2. Based on the Japan-EU Summit held in July, the Ministers exchanged views on various issues such as economic security and the strengthening of industrial competitiveness, and confirmed that Japan and the EU would continue cooperation.
  3. Furthermore, the Ministers exchanged views on a broad range of issues between Japan and the EU, including the EU’s efforts to simplify EU regulations, and confirmed that they would continue close communication to further strengthen Japan-EU economic relations.
