On September 16, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the 2025 U.S.-Japan Sister Cities Summit held in Izumisano City, Osaka Prefecture, and delivered remarks at the opening ceremony. The overview is as follows:

  1. In his remarks, State Minister FUJII highlighted the importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance, underscored the significance of this summit and of Japan-U.S. sister city exchanges, and acknowledged the efforts of stakeholders in holding the summit.
  2. State Minister FUJII also stated that the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the achievements of sister city exchanges. He also expressed his high expectation that this summit will further heighten momentum for promoting sister city exchanges.

Hosted by Sister Cities International, the summit is being held in Izumisano City, Osaka Prefecture from September 16 to 19 to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the United States. This is the first Sister Cities Summit between the two countries. Participants include Japanese and American exchange organizations, local government officials, sister city representatives, civic groups, and young leaders.
