Japan-Italy Vice Foreign Minister-Secretary General Consultation

On September 12, commencing at 8:00 p.m. for approximately one and a half hour, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting in the form of a working dinner with Ambassador Riccardo GUARIGLIA, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows :

  1. With regard to Japan-Italy bilateral relations, Vice-Minister Funakoshi and Secretary General Guariglia welcomed the steady progress in cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of areas based on the Japan-Italy Action Plan announced by the leaders at last year's G7 Summit in Apulia, particularly the progress in bilateral cooperation in the areas of security and economy, as well as the invigoration of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries as a result of this year's Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Furthermore, they exchanged views on cooperation toward maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, including the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific."
  2. In addition, they exchanged views on various issues of the international community, including the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East and Africa, and East Asia, and concurred to strengthen bilateral cooperation and collaboration through the G7 and other fora.
