Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Fujii by Ms. Celeste Connors, President of the East-West Center


On September 12th, commencing at 2:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by Ms. Celeste Connors, President of the East-West Center. The overview is as follows :
- At the outset, State Minister Fujii welcomed Ms. Connors on her visit to Japan, and expressed congratulations on her appointment as President of the East-West Center in July. He also conveyed appreciation for the Center’s contributions, including its outreach on the importance of Japan-U.S. relations.
- Ms. Connors explained the center’s activities, and both sides exchanged views on the security in the Indo-Pacific region and discussed on potential cooperation with the Center in the region.

The East-West Center was established in 1960 by the U.S. Federal Government to conduct academic research and education in the Asia-Pacific region. The East-West Center conducts research, education and human resource development, and the organization of conferences and seminars in a wide range of fields, including politics, economics, society, culture, and environmental issues, and contributes significantly to deepening mutual understanding and building friendly relations between the United States and countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
