Japan-France Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On September 11, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 55 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Jean-Noël BARROT, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA stated that he would like to continue working closely France who is an “Exceptional Partner”.
  2. In response, Minister Barrot stated that, amid the severe international situation, it is important for both countries to continue deepening the relations in a wide range of areas.
  3. The two Ministers also confirmed that Japan and France will work closely together on regional situations including the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, and concurred to continue to closely cooperate on international challenges both bilaterally and among the G7.
