Japan-U.K. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On September 9, commencing at 4:45 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with the Rt. Hon. Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The overview of the talk is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA congratulated Foreign Secretary Cooper on her appointment, and, while referring to the Japan-UK Economic 2+2 Ministers’ Meeting and recent visit of the UK’s Carrier Strike Group to Japan, stated that the partnership between Japan and the UK, an Enhanced Global Strategic Partner, has never been closer and more robust, and would like to further develop Japan-UK cooperation at all levels. Secretary Cooper replied that the Japan-UK relations is extremely important, and that she is pleased to be able to talk with Minister IWAYA soon after assuming office, and stated that she wished to further develop Japan-UK relations including collaboration within the G7.
- The two Ministers also discussed and concurred to continue to work closely together on various issues in the international community, such as the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
