The 9th Japan-Pakistan High-Level Economic Policy Dialogue

The 9th Japan-Pakistan High-Level Economic Policy Dialogue was held in Islamabad, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on September 5, 2025. Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary to the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Ministry of Economic Affair represented respective sides.
- During the meeting, Japan and Pakistan reviewed the progress on issues from the previous meeting in October 2024, and exchanged views on the current state and challenges of the Government of Pakistan’s reform initiatives, measures to promote exports from Pakistan and investment in Pakistan, and bilateral economic cooperation.
- The Japanese side stated its continued support for the efforts toward economic and fiscal reforms being pursued by Prime Minister Sharif, and emphasized that Pakistan's stability serves as the foundation for economic cooperation, investment by Japanese companies, and the strengthening of trade relations.
- Pakistan’s side explained the current state of reform efforts and outlined its views on future bilateral cooperation. Both countries concurred to continue close coordination, including the holding of the next session of the Economic Policy Dialogue.
