Japan-Israel Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting
September 4, 2025
On September 4, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Gideon SA’AR, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA strongly condemned the terror attacks by Hamas and stated that Hamas must be disarmed. He further stated that the intensifying Israeli military operations, resulting in extensive civilian casualties and the exaserbating humanitarian situation including famine, are utterly unacceptable. He strongly urged Israel to take concrete measures to immediately end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, to restore a ceasefire through diplomatic negotiations rather than military pressure, and to take renewed efforts towards achieving a permanent ceasefire.
- Furthermore, Minister IWAYA underscored Japan’s steadfast support for the realization of a two-state solution. He expressed a grave sense of crisis that Israel's actions, not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank, are eroding the very foundations of a two-state solution, and affirmed Japan’s opposition to any actions that run counter to it. He then strongly urged Israel to immediately halt all unilateral actions that could hinder the resumption of the peace process.
- In response, Foreign Minister Sa’ar explained Israel's position. Both sides concurred to continue exchanging views on the situation concerning Palestine and Japan-Israel relations.
