Regarding Press Release issued by the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Concerning “JICA Africa Hometown”

  1. With regard to the “JICA Africa Hometown” initiative announced by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the TICAD 9, the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria issued a press release on the 22nd August. That press release, however, contained information inconsistent with the facts, such as the issuance of special visa by the Government of Japan. The Government of Japan and JICA therefore requested the Government of Nigeria to correct the press release.
  2. As a result, the Office of the President issued a new press release on the 26th August, that removed the incorrect information. The press release issued of the 22nd August has already been withdrawn.
  3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to make efforts to ensure appropriate reporting and communication on this matter.
