The International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting

  1. On August 7 and 8, the Government of Japan, together with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), held the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting in Tokyo. This year, Japan is serving as the chair country of the INSARAG Asia-Pacific Regional Group. It is the fourth time that Japan has hosted this meeting, following its previous in 2018.

The meeting was attended by approximately 80 participants (including online participants) from the governments, international rescue teams, international organizations and NGOs from the Asia-Pacific region, and relevant Japanese ministries and agencies. They discussed their experiences and policies in relief activities, training, and methods of regular cooperation beyond the one during disasters.

INSARAG is the network established for the international standardization of urban search and rescue (USAR) teams and the development of on-site coordination mechanisms.
The Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Rescue Team has received the highest classification of "Heavy" in the capacity evaluation since 2010 based on the INSARAG Guidelines.
