Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister IWAYA by President AKANE of the International Criminal Court (ICC)

On August 8, from 13:05 to 13:15, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Judge AKANE Tomoko, President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), during her visit to Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA conveyed that Japan will continue to strongly support the ICC. Minister IWAYA also conveyed that it is important that the ICC can fulfill its role as a cornerstone of the rule of law.
- In response, President AKANE extended her appreciation for Japan’s consistent contributions to the ICC’s activities and said that she looks forward to the continued support.
- The two sides exchanged views on the circumstances surrounding the ICC and confirmed their continued cooperation toward maintaining and strengthening the rule of law within the international community.
