Visit to Japan by Dr. Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO)

- Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), will visit Japan from August 3 to 10.
- During his stay in Japan, the Executive Secretary will meet with Japanese government officials, as well as with officials of relevant domestic organizations of the CTBT to exchange views including on the operation of an international monitoring system, verification measures of nuclear tests as stipulated in the CTBT Treaty. In addition, he is scheduled to hold a press conference at the Japan National Press Club on August 5 and participate in the Peace Memorial Ceremony to be held in Hiroshima on August 6, and in the Peace Ceremony to be held in Nagasaki on August 9.
- Japan attaches great importance to the early entry into force of the CTBT from the perspective of maintaining and strengthening the international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime based on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). It is expected that this visit will further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the CTBTO and Japan.
