Japan-Thailand Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On July 30, at 3:30 p.m., for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. The summary of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed that Thailand and Cambodia had reached an immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement. He stated that steady implementation of the ceasefire agreement as well as de-escalation of the tensions are essential for the return to normalcy of the bilateral relations and strongly called for the sustainment of the ceasefire agreement. He expressed Japan’s willingness to cooperate to the extent possible in this regard.
  2. In response, Minister Maris explained Thailand’s position and stated that Thailand would appropriately address Japan’s concerns and work toward realizing normalcy of the relations with Cambodia, including safe movement of people and goods.
