Japan-Cambodia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Conversation

On July 25, at 2:20 p.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The summary of the conversation is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Iwaya expressed Japan’s deep concern over military clashes occurring between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand. He urged both Cambodia and Thailand to exercise maximum restraint and stated his strong hope that the tension between the two countries will be eased peacefully through dialogue.
- In response, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn explained Cambodia’s position and expressed Cambodia’s desire for a swift return to normalcy.
