On July 23, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed High Representative Kallas’s visit to Japan. Minister Iwaya also stated that given the rapidly changing international situations, cooperation among like-minded countries has become even more important, and that it is increasingly important for Japan and the EU to strengthen cooperation based on the Security and Defence Partnership as the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific has become increasingly inseparable.
  2. Both sides exchanged views on regional affairs including on Ukraine and in the Indo-Pacific and confirmed continuous close coordination between Japan and the EU, including on the occasion of today’s Japan-EU Summit.
