Commencement of Intergovernmental Negotiations for a Social Security Agreement between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam

  1. The Government of Japan and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam will commence intergovernmental negotiations for the conclusion of a Social Security Agreement between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
  2. Employees sent from Japan to Viet Nam as well as those sent from Viet Nam to Japan are currently obliged to affiliate to the social security systems of both countries thus duplicable payments of social security contribution which could be an economic burden on both individuals and corporations. It is expected that the conclusion of an agreement between Japan and Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on social security will resolve such situation and further promote human and economic exchanges between the two countries.
  3. The first round of intergovernmental negotiations will start from July 22, 2025.
