Meeting between Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and Dr. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Malta

On July 16, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Dr. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Malta, who is visiting Japan to participate in the National Day event of the Republic of Malta at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows.
The two sides also welcomed the exchange of Notes Verbales regarding a working holiday arrangement between Japan and Malta.
- At the outset, State Minister Fujii mentioned that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malta, and stated his hope to further develop the relationship between the two countries.
- State Minister Fujii also expressed his gratitude for the close cooperation with Malta as non-permanent members of the Security Council from 2023 until the end of last year, and stated that he hopes to continue to cooperate with Malta to maintain and strengthen the international order based on the rule of law, at a time when the foundations of the international order are being shaken by Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international situations and confirmed that they will continue their cooperation.
