Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ms. ERI Arfiya by Mr. Caiado, Governor of the State of Goias, Federative Republic of Brazil

On July 14, commencing at 3:30 PM (JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Ronaldo Ramos Caiado of the State of Goias, Federative Republic of Brazil, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri stated that Brazil is a strategic global partner that shares values and principles, with the world's largest Nikkei (Japanese immigrants and descendants) community, and welcomed Governor Caiado's visit to Japan with over 50 people, including state Parliament members, from the State of Goias, the center of the Cerrado development, a symbolic cooperative project between the two countries. She also expressed her expectation that various levels of exchange, including local exchanges, will deepen this year, which marks the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the "Japan-Brazil Friendship and Exchange Year."
- In response, Governor Caiado stated that State of Goias wishes to strengthen its economic cooperation with Japan, including expanding agricultural production in the state. He also stated his desire to deepen cultural exchange through cooperation with the local Nikkei community.
- Both sides exchanged views on economic matters, the Nikkei community, and cultural exchange, and confirmed their continued cooperation.
