The First Japan-Paraguay Policy Consultations

On July 5, commencing at 11:10 (local time) for approximately 4 hours and 40 minutes, the Fist Japan-Paraguay Policy Consultations was held in Asunción under the “Memorandum of Cooperation about Political Consultation Mechanism” signed in May this year. The Japanese side was represented by Mr. NOGUCHI Yasushi, Assistant Minister and Director-General of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Paraguayan side was represented by Mr. Víctor VERDÚN, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.

  1. Both sides discussed a wide range of areas, including economic relations and development cooperation, with a view to further developing bilateral relations as “Strategic Partners”, a status that was newly upgraded at the Japan-Paraguay summit meeting in May this year. They also exchanged views on the 90th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Paraguay to be celebrated next year.
  2. Both sides also exchanged opinions on regional situations in Latin America, East Asia and Ukraine, and confirmed to further deepen cooperative relations between the two countries.
