On June 23, commencing at 10:45 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Ms. Martine BIRON, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women of Québec, Canada, during her visit to Japan. The summary overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri stated that Japan and Canada are important strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific region that share fundamental values, and that Japan would like to further strengthen its relationship with Quebec, which has been engaging in strengthening the economic ties with Asian countries including Japan. In response, Minister Biron stated that Quebec would like to further advance cooperation with Japan.
  2. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri and Minister Biron exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including people-to-people exchange and business ties, from the perspective of enhancing Japan-Quebec relations, and confirmed their commitment to further cooperation in the future.
