On June 20, commencing at 4:00 p.m., Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Tanja FAJON, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, who is visiting Japan to attend Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, for approximately 40 minutes. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed Minister Fajon’s visit to Japan following her visit last year, and expressed his expectation for the promotion of exchanges through the Osaka-Kansai Expo, stating that amid the increasingly severe international situation, Japan hopes to work together with Slovenia, which shares values and principles, to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
  2. Minister Iwaya also expressed his expectation for the expansion of economic relations, noting the expansion of investment by Japanese companies in Slovenia, and expressed his desire to advance bilateral cooperation including in the fields of economy and science and technology.
  3. In response, Minister Fajon stated her desire to promote cooperation with Japan, a very important partner in the Indo-Pacific region, in various fields including the economy, and welcomed the strengthening of cooperation in the international arena, including both countries serving together as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council last year. The two Ministers agreed to further develop bilateral relations in a wide range of areas by leveraging opportunities such as the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and to continue cooperation between the two countries in the international arena.
  4. In addition, the two Ministers exchanged views on regional and international situations including Ukraine, the Western Balkans, the Indo-Pacific, and the Middle East, and confirmed that the two countries will continue to work closely together.
