Additional Measures under the IAEA framework related to the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea (Results)
June 17, 2025
As a part of additional measures under the IAEA framework that Japan and the IAEA concurred on conducting in September 2024, the IAEA officials and experts from third-party laboratories visited Japan and collected samples on June 17.
- IAEA officials and experts from laboratories from Belgium, China, Republic of Korea, Russia and Switzerland sampled ALPS treated water prior to dilution with seawater from measurement/confirmation tanks on the premises of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings(TEPCO)’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS).
- This was the fourth mission for conducting the additional measures, following October 2024, February 2025, and April 2025.
- The Government of Japan will continue to maintain close coordination with the IAEA in sharing information with the international community in a highly transparent manner and fostering better understanding of the safety of the discharge of ALPS treated water within both the domestic and international communities.
