The Sixth Meeting of the East Micronesia Cable Project Executive Board

On June 9, the Sixth Meeting of the East Micronesia Cable Project Executive Board was held in Tokyo.

  1. This project is a collaborative assistance project by Japan, Australia and the United States announced in December 2021. At this meeting, representatives from Japan, Australia, Kiribati, the Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, and the United States, confirmed that progress had been made since the previous meeting of the project executive board held in December last year, including the loading of the cable onto the cable lay ship, establishment of cable landing stations, and commencement of related technical cooperation.
  2. On June 10, the participants of the meeting visited NEC Corporation's factory in Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, where a range of equipment for cable is being manufactured.
  3. Japan will continue to work closely with each country for the steady implementation of this project, which will provide faster, higher quality, more reliable and secure communications to more than 100,000 people in these three countries in the Pacific region.
