State Minister for Foreign Affairs Fujii’s attendance at the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting

On June 4, at approximately 7:15 a.m. local time (2:15 p.m. JST), G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting was held in Paris for approximately 65 minutes, hosted by The Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade of Canada, the current G7 Presidency. From Japan, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. OGUSHI Masaki, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, attended the meeting. The overview is as follows.
- At the meeting, discussions were held on building resilient and strong economies that support fair competition and predictable and stable global trade and investment.
- State Minister Fujii called on the G7 to take the lead in maintaining and strengthening the rules-based international economic order, while emphasizing the importance of cooperation beyond the G7, including with the Global South.
- The participating ministers engaged in active discussions on topics such as tackling non-market policies and practices resulting in overcapacities, strengthening economic security and supply chain resilience, and resolving challenges facing the global trading system.
