Japan-Norway Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On June 3, commencing at 6:00 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Espen Barth EIDE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, he hopes to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including security, economy, and people-to-people exchanges. In response, Minister Eide stated that he was pleased to be able to visit Japan for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and that he hopes to work together with Minister Iwaya on Japan-Norway relations, the regional situation, and various issues facing the international community.
  2. The two Ministers appreciated the progress in security dialogues at various levels and welcomed the progress in green cooperation, including offshore wind power generation projects and the production of ship batteries.
  3. In addition, the two Ministers confirmed that Japan and Norway will cooperate on various issues of the international community, including the situation in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the situation in East Asia, such as their policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue.
