Japan-France Vice Ministers’ Meeting

On May 30, commencing at 10:30 a.m. (local time; May 30, 5:30 p.m. JST), for 4 hours, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting including a working lunch with H.E. Ms. Anne-Marie DESCÔTES, Secretary General of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- The two sides confirmed that Japan and France will strengthen bilateral relations in a wide range of areas such as security and defense, economy and industry including economic security, and cultural exchanges. The two sides also confirmed that both countries will work together to realize a “free and open Indo-Pacific” and to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
- The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues such as regional issues, including the Indo-Pacific, the situation in Ukraine and Russia, and the Middle East, as well as cooperation on global issues, in addition to bilateral relations. The two sides confirmed that Japan and France will further strengthen their ties through bilateral, G7 and international cooperation.
