Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Miyaji by Mr. Yau (丘應樺), Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

On May 29, 2025, commencing at 4:20 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Takuma Miyaji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Algernon Yau (丘應樺), Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- State Minister Miyaji emphasized that Hong Kong is a vital partner for Japan, with close economic ties and people-to-people exchanges.
- State Minister Miyaji urged the early lifting of import restrictions on Japanese food products by Hong Kong.
- State Minister Miyaji conveyed Japan's serious concerns about the recent situation in Hong Kong, reaffirming Japan's long-standing position that it is crucial for Hong Kong to uphold its free and open system under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework and to continue its democratic and stable development.
- Both parties agreed to continue cooperation towards strengthening relations between Japan and Hong Kong, particularly in areas such as economic fields and people-to-people exchanges.
