The 15th Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation

On May 27th, Mr. ANDO Toshihide, Director-General, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. Ali Asghar Mohammadi, Director General, Department of East Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held the 15th Japan-Iran Director-General Consultation in Tokyo. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- During this meeting, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations in a wide range of fields, and both sides concurred to continue multi-layered dialogue between Japan and Iran.
- The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, including Iran’s nuclear issue. Director-General Ando stressed the importance of advancing the talks currently being held between the United States and Iran as well as further cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Director-General Ando also stated that Japan will continue to make diplomatic efforts towards the peace and stability of the Middle East region.
