Courtesy Call on H.E. Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs IKUINA Akiko

On May 17, from 3:15 p.m. (12:00 p.m. May 17, local time) for approximately 45 minutes, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal during her visit to Kathmandu, Nepal, to attend the “Sagarmatha Sambaad”. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina expressed her condolences to the victim of the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir, which claimed the life of a young Nepalese, and stated that she strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. In response, Foreign Minister Deuba expressed her gratitude, and said that Nepal also strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. Both sides confirmed their commitment to working together in the fight against terrorism.
- Foreign Minister Deuba expressed her appreciation for Japan's participation in the “Sagarmatha Sambaad”, and also expressed her gratitude for the support from Japan, including the Sindhuli Road and the Nagdhunga Tunnel. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina, referring to the longstanding and strong friendship between Japan and Nepal, expressed her wish to continue to cooperate in solving Nepal's problems.
- The two sides expressed their hope that Nepalese who are active in Japan will contribute to Nepal's development through their experiences in Japan after returning to Nepal, creating a “flow of human resources”, as the foundation of friendly relations between the two countries is based on active people-to-people exchanges.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina also noted that the year 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal, and stated that she would like to take this opportunity to think of ways to make Nepal more familiar to Japan. Foreign Minister Deuba expressed her hope that the 70th anniversary would be a good opportunity to increase Nepal's presence in Japan, and the two sides concurred to use the occasion to conduct high-level visits and to cooperate to further promote relations between the two countries.
