On May 9th, commencing at 4:15 PM(JST) for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri conveyed Japan’s recognition of the FAO’s pivotal role in ensuring global food security and welcomed H.E. Ms. Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director General. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri also stated Japan's efforts regarding activities such as emergency support and resilience in the crisis settings, of which DDG Bechdol is in charge at the FAO.
  2. In response, H.E. Ms. Beth Bechdol, Deputy Director General expressed deep gratitude for Japan's support to the FAO and stated her intention to continue working together with Japan to address food crisis and build resilient food systems.
  3. Finally, both sides exchanged views on the current challenges regarding food security and concurred that Japan and FAO further deepen mutual collaborations.
