(Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects)

May 9, 2025

The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief kits, including water tanks and emergency evacuation tents, to people at monastic schools in Mandalay Region who have been forced to live in evacuation sites due to the damage caused by the earthquake that struck central Myanmar.

  1. The subject monastic school has been providing educational opportunities to children who have been unable to attend school due to the conflict in Myanmar, as well as providing livelihood support to internally displaced persons. The earthquake has damaged school buildings and water supply facilities, and at present, sufficient relief supplies have not reached the school, and the displaced people are being forced to live in difficult conditions. It is expected that the support will enable the children, students and teachers of the monastic school to live in safe and hygienic conditions, as well as to provide safe drinking water to local residents and displaced persons.
  2. The Government of Japan will continue to actively implement humanitarian assistance that directly benefits the people of Myanmar in need of support.
