Japan-India Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On May 7, commencing at 6:40 p.m. (Japan Time) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Iwaya extended his sincere condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Kashmir and expressed his deepest sympathy to those who were injured in the attack. Minister Iwaya stated that terrorism cannot be justified for any reason and Japan strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. Minister Iwaya also stated that fair investigation and punishment of offenders of this terrorist attack are important.
- In this regard, Minister Iwaya stated that Japan is deeply concerned that the recent series of events could lead to further reprisals and escalate into a full-scale military conflict and that urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and stabilize the situation through dialogue for the peace and stability in South Asia.
- In response, Minister Jaishankar explained India’s position on the situation.
