Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Iwaya by Ambassador-Designate George Glass

On April 21, commencing at 5:30 p.m., for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan received a courtesy call by Mr. George Glass, Ambassador-Designate of the United States. The overview is as follows:
- Foreign Minister Iwaya welcomed Ambassador-Designate Glass and expressed his intention to engage in candid discussions to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance. Ambassador-Designate Glass stated that the Japan-U.S. Alliance is important and that he also would like to work closely together to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
- Foreign Minister Iwaya and Ambassador-Designate Glass exchanged views on current Japan-U.S. relations, including U.S. tariff measures, regional situations such as China and North Korea including the abductions issue Foreign Minister Iwaya expressed his intention to work closely together with the United States and Ambassador-Designate Glass concurred on this point. Foreign Minister Iwaya also asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained full support from Ambassador-Designate Glass. In addition, both sides exchanged views on Japan-U.S. security and defense cooperation to strengthen the Alliance deterrence and response capabilities, Foreign Minister Iwaya conveyed Japan’s position on mitigation of the impact on local communities.
