On April 18, commencing at 5:45 p.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. George Glass, Ambassador-Designate of the United States, paid a courtesy call to Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, presented a copy of his credentials, and had an exchange of views. The overview is as follows:

Vice-Minister Funakoshi welcomed Ambassador-Designate Glass and expressed his intention to elevate the Japan-U.S. Alliance to new heights with Ambassador-Designate Glass, who has extensive experience and has earned deep trust from President Trump. Ambassador-Designate Glass stated his intention to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance and to closely collaborate to address various challenges which Japan and the United States face.

Both sides exchanged views on current Japan-U.S. economic relations, including tariff measures imposed by the United States, as well as regional affairs, and concurred to work closely together to further strengthen Japan-U.S. relations. In addition, both sides exchanged views on Japan-U.S. security and defense cooperation to strengthen the Alliance deterrence and response capabilities.
