Japan-Australia Vice Ministers’ Meeting

On April 16, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for approximately two and a half hours, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting including a working dinner with Her Excellency Ms. Jan Adams, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, in Tokyo. The overview is as follows.
- The two sides welcomed that, amid further progress in bilateral cooperation, the “Special Strategic Partnership” between Japan and Australia has become more solid than ever and concurred to continue to strengthen cooperation toward the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
- The two sides had a candid exchange of views on issues in the Indo-Pacific region and the international arena. They also confirmed their commitment to further deepen cooperation in various areas including security, economics, and people-to-people exchanges, with an eye on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation next year.
