Cooperation for earthquake damage in the Kingdom of Thailand: Dispatch of a team of experts in the field of building

In response to the damage caused in Thailand caused by the earthquake in central Myanmar, the Government of Japan will dispatch a team of experts in the field of building, consisting of officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, JICA and others. They will exchange opinions with Thai government officials etc., regarding the earthquake resistance and safety of buildings.

  1. Following the recent dispatch of a team of experts in the field of roads, a team of experts in the field of building will be dispatched from Japan from April 16 to 19 They will introduce Japan's experience and strengths in overcoming numerous earthquake disasters in terms of ensuring the earthquake resistance and safety of buildings, and exchange opinions with those concerned in Thailand.
  2. We will spare no effort to provide Thailand with necessary support and cooperation so that the people of Thailand, our long-time friends, can regain a safe and secure life as soon as possible.

In response to a request from the Thai government regarding the dispatch of Japanese experts in relation to the earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, the following cooperation was provided, including the dispatch of experts.

  • On April 4, a team of experts from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and the Metropolitan Expressway Company Limited arrived in Bangkok. They inspected the elevated expressway construction site.
  • On April 8, with the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan, an international conference on rapid post-earthquake assessment was held (hosted by the World Bank, in Bangkok). Ambassador to Thailand H.E. OTAKA Masato introduced Japan's initiatives, and experts in the field of earthquakes from Japan, Thailand and other countries participated. The conference shared systems and knowledge from each country, including Japan's emergency hazard assessment.
  • On April 10, a team of experts in the field of roads (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, Public Works Research Institute, Metropolitan Expressway Company Limited, JICA) arrived in Bangkok. A workshop was held on post-earthquake inspection of road bridges, etc., by the team and Ministry of Transport of Thailand.
