Dispatch of Self-Defense Forces aircraft in Response to the Earthquake Damage in Myanmar

- At the earliest, on April 8, one C-130 aircraft of Japan Self-Defense Forces will depart Komaki base for Myanmar in order to transport medical goods, including medicine and test kits, which are necessary for the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team dispatched in response to the earthquake that occurred in Myanmar on March 28, to continue its humanitarian assistance activities.
- The Government of Japan intends to continue to provide as much humanitarian assistance as possible including medical needs that directly benefits the people of Myanmar under the consistent policy of supporting the people of Myanmar facing difficulties.
(Reference1) Overview of the Damage caused by the Earthquake in Myanmar (as of April 6)
In Myanmar, the earthquake occurred on March 28 around 12:50 (15:20 JST) has resulted in a large number of those affected including the loss of lives, and significant physical damage. According to Myanmar's state-run media, as of April 6, 3,564 people died, 5,012 people are injured, and 210 people remain missing. The number of victims is expected to increase as search operations continue.

- Dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team
- On March 31, Assessment Team (5 members) was dispatched to Myanmar.
- On April 2, the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team (27 new members: including doctors and nurses. In total, 32 members including the assessment team) was dispatched.
- Provision of emergency relief goods
- On March 30, 240 waterproof sheets and 450 tents stocked by Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA), funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), were delivered.
- It has been decided to distribute essential goods (sanitary items, water, water purifiers etc.) to those affected by disasters through JICA.
- Emergency Grant
On April 2, the Government of Japan announced that Japan is prepared to implement Emergency Grant of approximately 6 million US dollars through international organizations (the details will be coordinated with relevant international organizations)
