Vice Minister Funakoshi’s call with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Landau

On March 27, commencing at 7:10 a.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a phone call with the Honorable Christopher Thomas Landau, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Vice Minister Funakoshi extended his congratulations to Deputy Secretary Landau on his assumption of office, for which Deputy Secretary Landau expressed his gratitude.
- The two sides exchanged their views on Japan-U.S. relations, including their security and economic cooperation, and a broad range of regional issues. The two sides concurred to continue working closely together to elevate the Japan-U.S. Alliance to new heights and to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law, building upon the outcomes of the Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting in February.
- Vice Minister Funakoshi conveyed Japan’s position regarding the tariff measures by the U.S. government.
