Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister IWAYA from Senator John Peter Ricketts, United States Senate

On March 17, 2025, commencing at 12:25 pm, for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from the Hon. John Peter Ricketts, United States Senate. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed Senator Ricketts on his visit to Japan. Minister Iwaya stated his desire to elevate the Japan-U.S Alliance to new heights and cooperate closely to materialize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) based on the rule of law.
- Both shared the view of the importance to further strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of Japan-U.S. Alliance, as well as Japan-U.S. economic relations. In addition, Minister Iwaya stated that, in the area of economy, it is important to expand trade and investment in a mutually beneficial manner for both Japan and the United States.
- Both sides also exchanged views on global issues, including the situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
