On February 27, 2025, Mr. MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the Estonian Day Reception, which was held at the Meiji Kinenkan, and delivered his remarks on behalf of the Japanese government. The overview is as follows:

  1. In his speech, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto noted that Japan and Estonia are partners which share values and principles, and that cooperation between the two countries has become more important than ever in the current international situation.
  2. Also, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto referred to Estonia's advanced e-government initiatives and welcomed the strong progress in bilateral relations in a wide range of fields, including digital, cyber, and security, and stated that he would like to further deepen and develop Japan-Estonia relations.
