Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Iwaya by Japan Uyghur Parliamentary Association

On January 30, commencing at 3:55 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from representatives of the Japan Uyghur Parliamentary Association (Chair FURUYA Keiji, Vice-chair YAMATANI Eriko, Secretary-General ETO Seiichi and Chief Secretary ISHIBASHI Rintaro). The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, the representatives of the Japan Uyghur Parliamentary Association handed the “Urgent Request to Prevent Forced Repatriation of Uyghurs detained in Thailand to China” to Minister Iwaya, and conveyed their request, including on the treatment of Uyghurs in Thailand.
  2. In response, Minister Iwaya stated that Japan is concerned about this matter, that the Government of Japan has been regularly communicating with the Government of Thailand on this matter, and that it will continue to respond appropriately, taking into account this request.
