The First Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue

  1. On January 20, the First Japan-Kenya Policy Dialogue was held in Nairobi. The representative of the Japanese side was Mr. HORIUCHI Toshihiko, Assistant Minister and Director-General for African Affairs Department, and the Kenyan side was represented by Dr. A. Korir SING’OEI, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

This Policy Dialogue was established at the Japan-Kenya Foreign Ministers’ Working Dinner held in last August, with the aim of steadily following up on the outcomes of President Ruto’s visit to Japan in February last year. During the dialogue, the two sides exchanged views on the further progress of the bilateral relations including business relations as well as confirmed that the two countries would work together to co-create solutions for challenges in Africa, looking ahead to the opportunity of TICAD9 to be held in August this year. Both sides also exchanged opinions on the cooperation in the international arena such as strengthening the functions of the United Nations including the Security Council reform, as well as on the situations: Africa including the Horn of Africa, East Asia, Ukraine as well as the Middle East.
