Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talks

On December 23, commencing at 11:15 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Iwaya Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, spoke over the phone with H.E. Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK). The summary of the telephone talks is as follows.
- Minister Cho explained the recent situation of the ROK. Both Ministers welcomed that both governments have continued close communication including between the two leaders and ministers, and concurred on continuing such close communication.
- Both ministers also confirmed, as confirmed by Prime Minister Ishiba and Acting President Han Duck-soo, to proceed with preparations for exchange programs and other initiatives for the 60th anniversary of the normalization of the Japan-ROK relations next year, taking into account the importance of these initiatives for the future of the people of both countries and Japan-ROK relations.
- The two Ministers reaffirmed the importance of the close coordination, including on policies toward North Korea, between Japan and the ROK and among Japan, the ROK and the US that remains ensured even in the face of various complicating situations.
