Foreign Minister Mr. Iwaya is meeting with Ms. Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine

On December 16, commencing at 7:10 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, who is visiting Japan to attend the Ninth Japan-Ukraine Economic Joint Meeting. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that he was pleased to meet with First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko again following his visit to Ukraine last month, and expressed his expectations that Japanese companies’ engagement in the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine would make further progress through the Ninth Japan-Ukraine Economic Joint Meeting attended by First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko. In response, she expressed her expectations for Japan’s continued involvement in Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery.
  2. Minister Iwaya referred to Japan’s support to date and conveyed its intention of continuing the support for Ukraine. In addition, he welcomed Ukraine’s announcement of its participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. In response, First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko expressed gratitude for Japan’s support for Ukraine in a wide range of fields and stated that she would like to continue to deepen cooperation with Japan. Furthermore, the two sides concurred on the need to conclude negociation on the revision of the Bilateral Investment Agreement as soon as possible.
  3. Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on realization of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and they concurred to continue close communication.
