Courtesy Call on State Minister Fujii by Lt GEN. James F. Glynn, Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific

On December 13, 2024, commencing at 11:55am, for approximately 40minutes, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Lt GEN. James F. Glynn, Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, during his visit to Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister Fujii extended his congratulations on Commander Glynn’s assignment as the Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, and mentioned that both countries must work together to strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of the Alliance, amidst the increasingly severe regional security environment. The State Minister expressed gratitude for the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific led by Commander Glynn, and particularly the III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) in Okinawa for its daily efforts and tireless activities, which plays a significant role in ensuring the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. Alliance. In response, Commander Glynn stated that the Alliance is significantly important to the United States, and that he will provide maximum support for ensuring the stability in the region.
- Both sides also confirmed the importance of steadily advancing efforts related to the realignment of U.S. forces in Japan from the perspective of maintaining the deterrence of the Alliance while mitigating the impact on local communities, namely Okinawa. State Minister Fujii called for prevention of recurrence of incidents and accidents and safe operations by U.S. Forces in Japan, that take into consideration its impact on local communities.
