The 8th Japan-Viet Nam Strategic Partnership Dialogue

On December 12, the 8th Japan-Viet Nam Strategic Partnership Dialogue was held in Tokyo.
- Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and Mr. ARIMA Takanori, Deputy Director General for Defense Policy, Ministry of Defense (MOD), with the participation of officials from MOFA and MOD on the Japanese side, as well as H.E. Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, with the participation of officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defence and Ministry of Public Security on the Vietnamese side, attended the dialogue.
- The two sides confirmed that they will materialize cooperation in the areas of security and economic security under the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World”, which was upgraded last year, and discussed cooperation, including defense equipment and technology cooperation.
- The two sides confirmed that Japan and Viet Nam share strategic interests amid the deepening division and confrontation in the international community and exchanged views on the two countries’ foreign and security policies as well as a wide range of regional issues, including the situation in the South China Sea and Myanmar.
- On this occasion, Senior Deputy Minister FUNAKOSHI also held a Japan-Viet Nam Foreign Ministries’ meeting with Permanent Deputy Minister Vu to discuss bilateral cooperation such as economy and people-to-people exchanges.
