Courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs by Senior National Security Adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania

On November 28th, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Mr. Kęstutis BUDRYS, Senior National Security Adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that Japan and Lithuania are strategic partners that share values and principles, and that he would like to continue to strengthen relations between the two countries. He also stated that there is a warm and strong bond between the two countries symbolized by the ‘Visas for Life’ issued by Mr. SUGIHARA Chiune, and that he would like to work closely with Lithuania to further strengthen bilateral relations on the occasion of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai next year.
  2. In response, Mr. Kęstutis BUDRYS, Senior National Security Adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, expressed his congratulations on Mr. Iwaya's appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs, and stated that he would like to work closely with Minister Iwaya in the future and deepen cooperation in a wide range of fields.
  3. Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwaya and Mr. Kęstutis BUDRYS, Senior National Security Adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, shared the view that security of the Europe-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific are inseparable, and confirmed that Japan and Lithuania will work closely together on the security situation in the Indo-Pacific and the situation in Ukraine.
