Release of the Japan-EU Security and Defence Partnership

On November 1 , Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, released the Japan-EU Security and Defence Partnership on the occasion of the 1st Japan-EU Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue.
- As the leaders of Japan and the EU concurred to further develop security partnership at the Joint Statement of the 29th Japan-EU Summit Meeting, Japan and the EU have been enhancing cooperation in the security field.
- This Partnership is aimed at further developing and strengthening their cooperation and dialogues in many areas of the security and defense front, as Japan and the EU are facing severe security environment. Concrete cooperation in maritime security, space, cyber security, hybrid threats including foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) will be enhanced.
