Japan-Singapore Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On October 29, commencing at 4:15 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Dr. Vivian BALAKRISHNAN, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Balakrishnan expressed his congratulations to Minister IWAYA on his appointment as Foreign Minister. In response, Minister IAWAYA, while conveying his gratitude, stated that he would like to further develop relations with Singapore, which assumes the ASEAN Country Coordinator for Japan.
- The two Ministers welcomed the steadily progress between the two countries being made in cooperation in a wide range of areas, including security, economy and people-to-people exchange. The two Ministers confirmed that they will further deepen cooperation, including in new areas such as digital, green and AI, looking ahead the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues including the situation in the East and South China Seas and concurred to continue close coordination.
