On October 15th, commencing at 5:30 pm, for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Kurt M. Campbell, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Foreign Minister Iwaya expressed his sympathies on the damage caused by the hurricanes in the southern part of the U.S. Also, Foreign Minister Iwaya mentioned the contributions of Deputy Secretary Campbell in strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance and deepening the cooperation of the two countries as global partners. Foreign Minister Iwaya stated that further strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance is a top priority of the Ishiba administration and he will build on the achievements until now and develop them.
  2. Deputy Secretary Campbell offered his congratulations to Foreign Minister Iwaya on his assumption of office. He also stated that he would like to continue to work for the further development of the Japan-U.S. Alliance, which has become stronger than ever.
  3. Foreign Minister Iwaya exchanged their views with Deputy Secretary Campbell on common challenges that both countries share and confirmed that Japan and the U.S. will continue to work closely together as global partners.
